Meet Margo May

I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri (est. 1986) I grew up in a large family, which sparked my lifelong love of working with children. I earned my degree in Family Studies from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 2009 and moved to Los Angeles in 2020 to pursue my career as a postpartum doula.

In January 2026, I completed my postpartum doula certification with Kathrin Auger, a highly respected leader in the Los Angeles doula community. In addition to my doula work,

I am a singer-songwriter and a passionate advocate for integrating music and language into daily routines with newborns to support bonding and early development.

FAQ

Explore common questions many families have as they welcome their newest family member into their home.

I believe in asking all and every question before you hire the person that is the right fit for your family.

When should I contact a doula?

It's best to contact the postpartum doula as early as possible in your pregnancy to benefit from comprehensive support and guidance throughout the postpartum stages. Although I am flexible as life moves and changes, some clients have booked me after the baby has arrived when the family feels they may need more support.

What is the role of a postpartum doula?

I provide a holistic approach for the whole family to adjust to their newest family member. Here is a list of all the services I will provide as your postpartum doula.

1. Newborn care
2. Emotional support

3. Physical support

4. Mental health support
5. Supporting the birthing parent
6. Supporting the coparent
7. Care of other sibling (s)
8. Advocacy and education
9. Referrals
10.Self-care

11.Lactation assistance and breast feeding support
12.Household organization and light cleaning
13.Simple meal preperation

14.Any simple errands outside the home like grocery runs/ home essentials

Do you work with families who have pets?

I do! Although I ask that families be aware not all pets will adjust to the new baby well and we must trouble shoot that as a team if that does occur. I have no allergies to animals and love them!

Can a doula assist with breastfeeding?

Absolutely. I provide breastfeeding guidance and support to help you feel confident. While I am not a licensed lactation consultant, I can refer you to excellent specialists. I am also experienced with bottle feeding, pumped milk, and formula feeding.

Do you also work as a nanny? What is the difference between a nanny and a postpartum doula?

I have worked as a nanny for 18 years and love it, but my focus is now on building my postpartum doula practice. I will not be transitioning into a long-term nanny role, but I can provide referrals.

A postpartum doula supports the family while a parent is present, focusing on education, recovery, and newborn care. A nanny typically provides ongoing childcare when parents return to work or are away from home.

What is your pricing? do you take insurance? do you offer nights?

What is a
Post Partum Doula?

The postpartum doula provides physical support as the family recovers and grows more comfortable with their new roles. The techniques for support should be individualized to the family’s specific needs, but may include providing opportunities for rest, personal care, and healing. The doula assists with newborn care,  breastfeeding/bottle-feeding, light household cleaning, meals, care to older children, and to be there to fill in the gaps as necessary.
